About

My name is Matt Gerega.  I work out of my home office near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for Accruent, but this blog, its content and opinions are my own. I am a programmer (with a variety of titles) by trade.  What does that mean?  It means I’m pretty good at writing code, a little bit better at developing the people who develop the applications, and a whole lot better at devising creative technical solutions to problems.

Although I have spent the bulk of my professional career in the .Net framework in one form or another, I pride myself on not carrying a religious view of technology:  programming languages and frameworks are a tool, and we should choose the proper tool for the job.

Background

I have spent a great deal of time at Four Rivers Software Systems and then, via acquisition, Accruent.  I have held roles ranging from Engineer to Senior Engineering Manager to Application Architect, spending these 15 years mostly in the Healthcare side of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

Outside of work, I dabble in some home automation, light carpentry, and low level water chemistry (i.e, maintaining a pool).  I enjoy understanding how things work and applying those concepts to others.

Random Facts

I am a husband and father to three amazing kids.  I play soccer poorly, that is to say I run around on the field and kick a ball for exercise.  I “peloton” (is that a verb?), contribute to Open Source as I can, and try to learn one new thing every day.
